a little know how from the stamps

In collaboration with the jubilant zoo Diergaarde in Blijdorp, a sheet about endangered animals appeared in 2007. Twelve animals were depicted on the stamp sheetlet, which are in Diergaarde Blijdorp and can be admired there.
Twelve endangered animals on stamps

Endangered animals
The Dutch postal service TPG came on the occasion of animal day with a sheet of stamps with endangered animals. The sheet originated in collaboration with Diergaarde Blijdorp. The twelve stamps in the sheet have a postage value of 39 cents.
The stamp sheetlet calls attention to animal species that are threatened with extinction worldwide. With this publication, attention is also paid to the 150-year jubilee of Diergaarde Blijdorp in 2007. The animals now live in Blijdorp in the most natural environment possible. Here they can behave more freely and naturally.
Twelve animals are depicted on the stamp sheet that are found in Diergaarde Blijdorp and can be admired there. On the stamp sheetlet are the net giraffe, the pygmy hippopotamus, the lowland gorilla, the Asian elephant, the Indian rhinoceros, the Sumatran tiger (the smallest living tiger), the François langur (leaf monkey), the Madagascar comet tail moth, the Mantjoerij crane, the blue poison dart frog. , the small panda and the Asian lion pictured.

Secret messages
Design agency Thonik from Amsterdam designed the stamps and used so-called isograms in the design. By making use of a transparent film that can be placed over the stamps, hidden facts about the pictured animal species become visible when you lay the sheet flat. The message, the maximum weight of the male and eating habits of the animal in the wild, is shown in a light blue sphere.
When designing the stamp sheetlet, the Thonik design team was inspired by the French artist Henri Rousseau, who became known for paintings with wild animals and dream images. The stamps stand alone and together form part of a whole.
